Where is Fancy Product Designer stronger?

  • More export formats. PDF, SVG, JPG and PNG from the order, in the sizes you choose, which suits screen printing, cutting and paper products.
  • Finer pricing. A price per layer, per element type or per product view, on top of the WooCommerce price.
  • Shopify as well. The same designer is sold as a Shopify app, so one tool can serve a shop on each platform.
  • A long record. Its CodeCanyon item was created about 13 years ago and shows 23,480 sales, and it lists versions back to WordPress 4.9.

Where is Lumise stronger?

  • Still sold with updates and support. Each purchase includes a year of updates and 24/7 live chat, renewed yearly, while Fancy Product Designer’s CodeCanyon edition gets no new versions and no support from its author there.
  • More for customers without artwork. Templates, clipart, shapes and QR codes are part of the designer, with a Sync add-on for a larger template library.
  • Print methods in the price. Each product can offer DTG, sublimation, screen, embroidery and other methods, each priced on its own.
  • A Printful add-on. Designs can be sent to Printful for printing and shipping.

Where PrintBlob fits

PrintBlob is a third self-hosted option, for WooCommerce shops that print garments. The free plugin is on WordPress.org and in active development; customers design the front of its bundled t-shirt in every colour you sell, and each order keeps its design. PrintBlob Pro, sold yearly or once (see PrintBlob’s pricing), adds your own products on your own photos, the back and the sleeves, a 3D view, custom fonts, design templates, a clipart library of your own art, a print queue, and per printed side a transparent PNG at 300 DPI, a vector PDF and an SVG at the print area’s exact size.

PrintBlob is not the right choice if you need QR codes, a price per print method, print-on-demand, paper products such as business cards, or a Shopify store: Fancy Product Designer or Lumise does more there. The alternatives page sets all of them side by side.

How do I choose between Fancy Product Designer and Lumise?

  1. Name the file your printer needs. Screen printing, cutting and paper products usually need PDF or SVG; DTG and DTF printers work from a PNG at 300 DPI at the print size. Fancy Product Designer lists PDF, SVG, JPG and PNG; Lumise lists PNG and SVG downloads, print-ready files at 300 DPI, and PDF export in its changelog.
  2. Check who will update and support it. Read the plugin's own page on the day you buy: Fancy Product Designer's CodeCanyon edition is in maintenance-only status, and Lumise's updates and support run for a year at a time.
  3. List what your customers must be able to do. Templates, clipart, QR codes, several sides, colours per layer or a price per print method: tick each against the table above.
  4. Try both on the same product. Set up one product in each, place a test order, and compare the designer on a phone, the order screen and the file you would send to print.
