Guides

How to make a website where customers design their own t-shirts and you sell and print them, step by step in WooCommerce: products, colours and sizes, a product designer, pricing per printed side, and print files with every order.

What makes a t-shirt print file ready to print: a transparent PNG at 300 DPI at the printed size, or a vector file where the method takes one. Why customer photos print blurry, why backgrounds print as boxes, and what DTG, DTF, screen printing, vinyl and embroidery each need from you.

T-shirt design sizes for every common placement (full front, oversized, centre chest, left chest, pocket, full back, upper back, yoke, sleeves, youth and women's) in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI, compiled from printers' published guidance, with where each goes, what DPI to use and how to set up the file.

How to photograph your own blank shirts so customers can design on them: hanger or flat lay, light, a white shirt for every colour, front and back that match, a transparent background, and the print area in centimetres.

Three ways to let customers design products in a WooCommerce shop: self-hosted designer plugins, hosted customizer services, and print-on-demand integrations. What each costs, where designs are processed, and what you get back.

WooCommerce has no upload field on product pages. Three ways to accept customers' logos and photos for printing, what makes an upload printable, and how to handle storage, privacy and image rights.

Two ways to let customers personalise WooCommerce products with their own text, how to keep custom text readable once it's printed, font licences for merchandise, and how to price it.

A method for pricing custom-printed t-shirts in an online shop: what each shirt really costs you, pricing the blank and each printed side separately, minimums, extras like sizes and colours, and how to show it to customers.

How to add hoodies, mugs, tote bags and caps next to t-shirts in a WooCommerce shop with a product designer: what changes for each product, its print areas and sizes, the photos it needs, and how to set each one up as a variable product with its own mockup.

How DTF, DTG and screen printing work, the file each one needs, where their costs and minimums come from, and which suits one-off designs that customers make in an online shop.

Hat logo sizes for every common placement (structured cap front, dad hat, trucker hat, side, back, beanie cuff, bucket hat, heat transfers) in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI, compiled from embroiderers', printers' and cap makers' published limits, with the smallest text that stitches and what a cap needs beside a PNG.

Hoodie and sweatshirt design sizes for every common placement (front above the pocket, crewneck front, left chest, zip hoodie chest, full back, sleeve, youth) in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI, compiled from printers' published limits, with where each goes and how to set up the file.

The print size of an 11 oz and a 15 oz mug's full wrap in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI, compiled from printers' and blank makers' published print areas, with where the wrap goes round the handle, how big each side of a two-sided print is, and how to set up the file.

How to measure the print area of your own blanks, where to find the common sizes for each product, how centimetres, DPI and pixels relate, and how to set a print area and print size per side so every print file comes out the right size.

Tote bag design sizes for a standard cotton tote (front or back, an upright design, all-over print) in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI, compiled from printers' published print areas, with how to measure your own bag and set up the file.

How print shops take orders where every shirt shares one design but has its own name, number and size: the options WooCommerce gives you, how customers list every person on one design with PrintBlob Pro's names and numbers, how the free plugin takes them one at a time, and how to check each line's print file.

Everything to check before and after opening a WooCommerce shop that prints customers' designs itself: products and mockups, print files and DPI, pricing per printed side, proofs, the order flow from checkout to press, returns for custom items, and the privacy of customer uploads.

PrintBlob Pro turns your product's front and back photos into a 3D product customers turn in the designer, with their design printed on it. What photos to take, how to prepare them, and how the 3D shape is made, step by step.

How a print shop gets a customer's artwork approved: emailed proofs and mockup approval rounds after the order, or a live mockup the customer approves while designing. What each costs in time and mistakes, what a resolution warning catches, and when a proof is still worth sending.

What a design file needs for DTF printing: a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI at the printed size, no half-transparent areas, lines thick enough to transfer and the colour mode your printer asks for. With a check before you print, and how a WooCommerce shop gets these files from its orders.

How to sell custom prints from Instagram through a WooCommerce shop: what Meta for WooCommerce does, why every post for a designed product leads to your product page, the links, tags and order tracking to set up, and what the shop needs first.

Set up WooCommerce's Local pickup for a shop that prints customers' designs: where the settings are, why pickup may not show at checkout, whether it can be limited to some products or given a pickup time, and how a designed order goes from print file to the counter.

What WooCommerce's own order statuses mean for a shop that prints customers' designs, which emails each one sends, how to add a custom order status such as Awaiting artwork or Ready to collect with a plugin or code, and how custom statuses work with a print queue.

WooCommerce has no size chart setting. Three ways to add one to t-shirts and hoodies: a table in the product description, a size chart plugin, or a block in the product template. What the chart should measure, where customers see it on a product with a designer, and why the print does not grow with the size.

Which kind of plugin a WooCommerce shop needs to sell personalised products: a product add-ons plugin with a text field or a file upload, or a product designer where the customer places their text and images on the product. What each does, which products each fits, the work each leaves you per order, and using both in one shop.

How a WooCommerce shop shows a t-shirt's colours: what WooCommerce does on its own, what a variation swatches plugin adds, why every colour then needs its own photo, what changes past 30 variations, and how a product designer shows every colour from one white photo.

How to sell DTF gang sheets and transfers from a WooCommerce website: sheet sizes as variations, a finished sheet uploaded with the order or a gang sheet builder plugin, the file a sheet needs, pricing by size or length, and how a shop that also prints shirts gangs its own orders.

The equipment and supplies a t-shirt printing business needs for each print method, starting with a heat press and bought transfers, what size of heat press fits which prints, what working from home asks of the room, and how to take orders online.

How big the name and numbers on a jersey or team shirt should be, by sport and for youth and adult sizes, in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI: the heights a lettering maker publishes, the minimums US high-school rules set for football, basketball and soccer, where the name goes over the number, and the print file each one needs.

How big a sublimation design can be on a shirt, set by the sheet of sublimation paper your printer takes: the largest t-shirt print on letter, A4, legal, 11 × 17 in, A3 and 13 × 19 in paper, in inches, centimetres and pixels at 300 DPI, with the shirts sublimation prints on, the file format, transparency and mirroring.
