Set up an Instagram shop with WooCommerce for custom prints

How to sell custom prints from Instagram through a WooCommerce shop: what Meta for WooCommerce does, why every post for a designed product leads to your product page, the links, tags and order tracking to set up, and what the shop needs first.

Published , by the PrintBlob team.

To sell custom prints from Instagram, the order is taken on your WooCommerce shop and Instagram sends people to it. Instagram can show your products, through your profile’s link, links in stories and, with Meta’s free Meta for WooCommerce plugin, products from your shop’s catalogue. But a product the customer designs is designed where the designer is: on your product page. So every post, story and tag for a designed product should lead straight to that product page, with a designer that works well on a phone, and a link that tells WooCommerce the visit came from Instagram.

This guide covers what the shop needs first, the ways to link from Instagram, the plugin that connects the two, and how to see which orders Instagram brought.

What Instagram can and cannot do for designed products

Instagram shows photos, videos and, for shops that connect a catalogue, products with their names and prices. It cannot run a product designer: a customer cannot upload a logo, type a name or choose a print position inside Instagram. For a t-shirt with the customer’s own design, Instagram’s job is to show what you print and send people to the page where they make their own.

That makes the product page the shop window. Someone who taps through from a post should land on the product they saw, with the designer ready, not on your home page.

What the shop needs first

  • A product page with the designer on it, for each product you promote. With PrintBlob, free, the designer sits on the product page: customers upload photos and logos, type text on the product, pick a colour and a size, and see the price before adding it to the cart.
  • A product page that works in Instagram’s own browser. Links from Instagram usually open inside the app. Tap your own product link from Instagram on your phone, design something and go through checkout before you post it.
  • Photos of real prints. Instagram is a visual feed; photos of shirts you actually printed show the quality, and the designer shows what customers can change.
  • A checkout that is quick on a phone: WooCommerce’s block-based Checkout, and the payment methods your customers use.

Three ways to send Instagram followers to a design page

Your profile’s link is the simplest route and needs no plugin. Point it at the product most people want, or at a category page that lists your designable products, and say in your profile what it leads to: “Design your own shirt: link below.” Change it when you promote another product.

A story can carry a link. Use one per product: a story showing a printed hoodie links to that hoodie’s product page, not to the shop. Stories disappear after a day, so post one each time you show a product.

3. Products from your catalogue

To show products from your shop inside Instagram, connect your WooCommerce catalogue to Meta. Meta’s own plugin for this is Meta for WooCommerce (by Facebook, free in the WordPress.org plugin directory as facebook-for-woocommerce). Its description, read on 20 Oct 2026, says it connects a WooCommerce website to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and uploads the shop’s catalogue. Which accounts and countries can tag products in posts is decided by Instagram, and its Help Centre page “Add shopping tags to Instagram posts” has the current requirements.

For a designed product, a tag is still a way to the product page: the customer designs there.

Add tracking parameters to every link you put on Instagram, so the orders it brings are marked as such:

https://your-shop.example/product/custom-t-shirt/?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=spring-shirts

WooCommerce reads these parameters with its Order Attribution feature, under WooCommerce › Settings › Advanced › Features. When it is on, the Orders screen has an Origin column showing where each order came from, and each order shows the source, medium and campaign it was attributed to. Use a different utm_campaign per post or story to see which one sold.

Posts that sell designed products

  • Show the print on the product, worn or on a hanger, in daylight. A photo of the real print shows more than a mockup.
  • Show what customers can change. A short screen recording of the designer on a phone, adding a name or a photo, explains the product faster than a caption.
  • Repost customers’ prints, with their permission, and link the product they designed on.
  • Name the product page in the caption, so people who can’t tap a link in a post know where to go.

A checklist before you post

  • The product page opens on a phone from Instagram, and the designer works there.
  • Every link goes to a product page, not to the home page.
  • Every link carries utm_source=instagram and a campaign name.
  • Order Attribution is on, and the Origin column shows on the Orders screen.
  • The product’s photos, price and print price match what the post shows.

Questions shop owners ask

Do I need a plugin to connect WooCommerce to Instagram?

Only to show products from your shop’s catalogue inside Instagram. Meta for WooCommerce, Meta’s free plugin in the WordPress.org directory, connects WooCommerce to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and uploads the catalogue. Linking to a product from your profile or a story needs no plugin.

Can customers design a product inside Instagram?

No. Instagram shows photos, videos and products; the designer runs on your product page. Every post, story and tag for a designed product should lead to that page.

How do I see which orders came from Instagram?

Add utm_source=instagram and a campaign name to every link you post, and turn on Order Attribution under WooCommerce › Settings › Advanced › Features. The Orders screen then shows each order’s origin in its Origin column.

Does the designer work for people arriving from Instagram on a phone?

PrintBlob’s designer is laid out for phone screens as well as desktops. Open your product link from Instagram on your own phone and place an order before you post it, because Instagram opens links in its own browser.
